PRESENTATION OF SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
The dinner, usually held at the May dinner meeting of the KSA, had to be re-scheduled due to a conflict with the Memorial Cup event hosted in 2008 by the Kitchener Rangers at the Kitchener Auditorium (May 16 --- 25). KSA raises money through sales of 50/50 tickets at Kitchener Ranger home games and had some major draws throughout the Memorial Cup Tournament.
Congratulations to the winners of the 2008 scholarships: Saxxon Hansraj (Eastwood), Joseph Kipfer (Rockway Mennonite), Casey Pottier (Grand River) and Laura Schmidt (Forest Heights). The scholarship includes $1,000 towards their first year tuition and a further $1,000 towards their 2nd year's tuition. More on the 2008 scholarships.
October 21: KSA's AGM dinner in collaboration with the Kitchener Rangers Directors
As well as being the KSA's Annual General Meeting with the election of directors and approval of the Operating Committee for the 2008/09 year, the night featured:
Introductions/Q&A - Don Cameron
“Voice & Choice of the Rangers”
COO & Chair, Host Committee, 2008 MasterCard Memorial Cup
General Manager & Coach, Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club
The evening's proceedings also included a presentation by Mark Quinn, John Levesque, Robert Henning & Lauren Coxon of the KW Rangers --- in support of including a KSA Scholarship for a KW Ranger player. Cheques were presented to The Hall of Fame (accepted by Ray Alviano), The KW Athlete of the Year Program (accepted by Pete McIlwraith), KMHA's Donna's Kids Program (accepted by Donna Weber) and the United Way (accepted by Anne MacKay). A busy night!
At a pre-game ceremony at centre ice before the Kitchener Ranger game on Friday, November 21/08 the Children's Wish Foundation received donations from the Kitchener Rangers and KSA.. The Rangers donated proceeds from their annual fan BBQ held in September and topped the sum up with their own donation to make their total exceed $10,000. KSA contributed a further $2,000 from the proceeds raised through 50/50 ticket sales. Ranger fans are thanked for their outstanding support making these donations possible.
Nov. 21 at centre ice, Kitchener Auditorium: Anne Boehm (Children's Wish Foundation) joined Shawn McKelvie (Kitchener Rangers Director) and Rick Weinstein (KSA Director and 50/50 Draw Coordinator for cheque presentations --- $10,000 from the Rangers and $2,000 from KSA. (Rangers BBQ fundraiser topped up by the Rangers and KSA 50/50 raffle proceeds.) Children's Wish uses the funds it receives for the benefit of youth such as Cole, also at centre ice to drop the puck for the Rangers game, who got his wish to go on a cruise. Congratulations Cole and thanks to all the Ranger hockey fans for making this possible.
