2008 Athlete of the Year Award - Mandy Bujold

11th annual Athlete of the Year Award

Recipient of the 2008 award:

Mandy Bujold - Boxing

Mandy is a repeat nominee who began boxing at the Waterloo Regional Boxing Academy at the age of 16 for personal fitness reasons.  Six years later she is the two-time Gold Medalist at the Provincials, Nationals and Pan American Games.  Mandy continued to gain international experience and recognition in 2008 by competing in the Witch Cup, the XXIII Ahmert and the World Championships in China.  She now has her sights set on a medal at the World Championships and hopes to represent Canada at the 2012 Olympic Games, once female boxing is accepted as an Olympic sport.

Mandy's performance highlights:            

  • Gold Medal – Canadian Senior National Championships
  • Gold Medal – Pan American Games
  • Gold Medal – Ontario Senior Provincial Championships
  • Bronze Medal – Witch Cup
  • Ranked 4th –  World Amateur Standings
