KSA's Volunteer Recognition Dinner
Our 30th annual celebration!
Edelweiss Sports Bar
With special guest MC - Mike Farwell (570 News)
Since 1989, KSA has hosted an annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner whereby each of the local (Kitchener, Waterloo and surrounding townships) minor sports organizations can nominate a deserving volunteer for public recognition at no expense to the sports group. For years, the late Don Cameron served as the evening's MC and he was notably missing this year but Mike Farwell did a great job in Don's absence, Hopefully, Mike is up to becoming KSA's "voice of the volunteers" for many years to come.
After welcoming remarks from Committee Chair Russ Woloshyn, the event started with a cheque presentation by KSA President Bill Pegg to KW Diving Club President Brian Dixon. Three of the club's young divers are off to Montreal to compete at the CAMO International and KSA provided a $1,200 travel grant to help with their expenses. Everyone wishes them well!
Fee-assistance Committee members, Lerinda Chapeskie and Gord Dearborn, then presented cheques to the particpating sports groups:
Waterloo Regional Boxing $3,000, Kitchener Minor Baseball $1,500, Stanley Park Optimist Ball $395, KW Youth Basketball $3,000, KMHA Donna's Kids $2,500, KW Water Polo $3,000, Kitchener Minor Girls Softball $700, KW Gymnastics $2,000, Central Ontario Developmental Riding Program $4,000, Sports for Special Athletes $3,000 and KW Minor Boys Softball $1,200. All local sports groups are invited to partner with KSA and ensure that everyone who wants to play gets to play! KSA Fee-assistance
After grace by Dave McLelland and a fine dinner, Mike got the awards portion of the evening started right on schedule. Each recipient is introduced by a member of his/her organization and receives a personalized plaque commemorating the occasion. It was an evening filled with appreciation for all the time and effort that those honoured have provided ... and continue to provide. Our local sports programs couldn't function without the contributions of thousands of volunteers working behind the scenes and represented by a select few each year. On behalf of local youth, we need all the volunteers to keep up the good work! Thanks!

Special KSA President's Award
On behalf of KSA members and local sports groups, KSA President Bill Pegg presented Norm Foss with a special KSA President's Award in recognition of Norm's service to KSA for the past 40 or so years. Norm has done it all: past-president, director, member of the Operating Committee, 50/50 Co-chair, bookkeeper and treasurer. He's done all the financial reporting and year-end statements and plans to take a step back. On behalf of the local sports community, we extend our sincere thanks to Norm for everything he's done -- but we'll still see him at the next board meetings!
The evening ended (by 8:45 pm) with some group photos, networking and season's greetings!
KSA does not hold a dinner meeting in December.
First dinner meeting in 2019: Tuesday, January 15 (Rangers night)
Details on this meeting and thereafter are TBA.
Enjoy the Christmas break!
