Recognizing the contributions of local volunteers
We had a great crowd out to help celebrate the contributions local volunteers make to our community's sport programs. We thank these select individuals and the thousands more they represent and, without whom, the programs couldn't function. Thanks to each and every volunteer -- you do make a difference!
After networking upon arrival, attendees were updated on KSA's programs and funding opportunities. Members also passed several grant recommendations from KSA's Operating Committee:
- $5,000 more (total of $10,000) to KidsAbility for wheelchair basketball equipment - cheque presentation to Heather Curran.
- $40,000 to Pride Stables (once work is complete) for favility upgrades to their facility. Heather MacKneson was on hand to acknowledge KSA's support and answer questions.
Cheques were also presented to groups involved with KSA's Fee-assistance Program: Sports for Special Athletes, Kitchener Minor Hockey (Donna's Kids), Waterloo Regional Boxing Academy, KW Water Polo, Kitchener Minor Baseball, Pride Stables, Stanley Park Optimist Ball, KW Minor Boys Softball, KW Gymnastics and ROW Swim Club.(KW Synchro will be receiving their cheque at a later date.) Thanks to all the local sports groups that offer fee-assistance so everyone gets to play -- we're here to help!
Don Cameron was back to MC the event that Russ Woloshyn chaired with help from his left-hand man, Bob McKillop and volunteers from KSA. Les Armstrong, the Mayor of Wilmot Township, helped with the award presentations to the 25 recipients and represented local politicians. Thanks everyone - just like the volunteers - it all makes for a great celebration!
