Dinner with Butch Carter
At the Edelweiss Sports Bar & Grill.
Former Raptors Head Coach, Butch Carter
Topic: The past and future of professional basketball in Canada
Carter brought 11 solid years of NBA experience as a player and coach to the Raptors bench. He is known to have an outstanding work ethic and an unbelievable attention to detail. He is the first coach in the history of the NBA to take to take a team from less than 20 wins to the playoffs in two seasons. This amazed everyone in the NBA in light of the fact the Raptors had the third lowest payroll in the league and outdated facilities.
More recently, Coach Carter has been spending most of his time helping people build sound, efficient companies.
For the past year, Carter has been exploring the Canadian market and ironing out the details for (his) new Canadian BasketBall League. A lot of the groundwork is in place, including a deal with CHCH TV, and keen interest from several markets for team franchises. Carter explained some of the financial factors being addressed to ensure success and assured everyone that this won't be a rushed introduction but a carefully planned venture. Discussions are ongoing regarding possible markets, suitable sites and sponsors. Carter doesn't anticipate any problem recruiting young players (ages 18 - 26) for the teams once a solid base is in place. He's working on getting everything in order - one step at a time. Let's play ball soon!
