Guest speaker:

Troy Smith - Coach of the Kitchener Rangers
(Troy Smith bio.)

Troy provided updated information on the Rangers and answered questions from the audience.

& special guest

Ralph Mellanby - former Executive Producer of CBC's "Hockey Night in Canada".  (He's the guy that hired Don Cherry!)

When CFCF-TV went on the air in January 1961, Ralph Mellanby was hired to direct not only CFL Football, but anything else thrown at him.  In 1963, CTV began broadcasting Wednesday night NHL hockey games, and Ralph was assigned to direct both Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs games; this was the beginning of what was to be a long association for Ralph with NHL Hockey.

Over the decades, Ralph has been Executive Producer for CBC's "Hockey Night in Canada",  and as well has produced 13 different sets of Olympic games.(More on Ralph Mellanby.)

Ralph entertained the audience with some interesting - mostly humerous - anecdotes involving Bobby Orr, Gordie Howe, Howie Meeker and Don Cherry (amongst others). If you missed this event, or want more, you may enjoy reading Walking With Legends: The Real Stories of Hockey Night in Canada (2007) by Mike Brophy & Ralph Mellanby.

Cost for this dinner was $25

You're invited to come out and enjoy any of the upcoming KSA dinners with members of the local sports community. Please let us know you're coming so we can make proper meal arrangements.

NOTE: Due to a Rangers game Tuesday, this October dinner was held on Wednesday so everyone could enjoy both events.

Please mark down the 3rd Tuesday of each month for KSA dinners - future notices will then be reminders!  Reminder: We do not have dinner meetings in December, June, July and August.

Our 26th annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner is Tuesday November 18 with special guest, Kitchener's Mayor, Carl Zehr. All local minor sports groups are encouraged to have one of their key volunteers recognized at this special event. Reminder: Nomination forms must be submitted well beforehand.
